POOK

POOK is a steel grill. Its special feature concerns the baking and grilling racks that can be moved, changing the distance to the wood fire or hot coals. This enables a large variation of cooking temperatures: a high temperature for searing meat, or a lower temperature for delicate fish or vegetables. By completely sliding the racks to the side, you can let a piece of meat rest or gently warm it up.

The poker that comes with it - hence the design’s name - can be used to easily move the racks and grill.

In terms of design, POOK differs completely from existing grills: it is not only a cooking device, but also a sculptural object. The same collection includes a burger press and a multi-purpose knife.

The jury on POOK:

A visually distinctive product, with readability enabling intuitive use. In addition, the product researched common BBQ actions. POOK is an object with its own character and humour, with considerable attention to detail and finished to perfection.

How did the idea for this project come about?

POOK was born out of necessity: together with some friends, we were looking for a barbecue or grill that you can also cosy up around in winter. I decided to create my own design that is robust but also looks appealing in your garden or on your terrace. The first model was made from the materials of my table collection, purely for my own use. Several clients were enthusiastic, so I elaborated the design. Extensive research into ease of use and temperature requirements led to the idea of dividing the grill and cooking racks into sections and sliding them horizontally instead of vertically. This also makes it possible to work with multiple temperature zones at the same time.

What makes your project so special?

POOK stands out from other grilling and barbecue appliances in terms of both image and function. The design has been reduced to its essence: pure, robust and without superfluous elements. That simplicity goes hand in hand with durability: the grill is a structure welded from thick sheet steel and is built to last. In addition, the design and operation ensures a wide temperature range, allowing for grilling and cooking in lots of different ways. POOK thus combines a timeless look with versatile ease of use.

Do you have any further plans for this project?

In the coming period, we are committed to further commercialising the grill and strengthening the POOK brand. We are also working on a range of additional tools to make grilling even more enjoyable and complete, such as a knife and a burger press in the same design language and material quality.
